Nowadays, in the 21 st century and on a first-world country, the thought of exploiting and forcing children to work is already a bizarre thing, even more to think that these children would be used to fight in war as soldiers. Well, this image shows us this isn’t the case for every country or at least that it hasn’t always been.
The background of the image is blurry due to the excess of light but we can easily identify the fabric of what looks like a military tent. Inside this improvised refuge, we can see two Vietnamese children that are around 8 and 9 years old. Both of them are holding heavy rifles and they are also smoking -which is odd at this age-. The one in the right is wearing a helmet but the one on the left isn’t. They must had been recruited by the Vietcong army because of
the lack of older soldiers.
As I said it is hard to think that something like this could happen now, but although this picture was taken many years ago we mustn’t forget about it, as if we do so, what happened to this kids could happen again.
